new year is coming up...

*i was going to find some pictures and make a collage but there's not much time for that since it's gonna be midnight soon and i wanna post this up before then. i'll update later, i promise!
so here it is, new year's eve, the last day of the year. to sum up the wonderful year that has been 2010, i thought i'd write a short post about the last year of the decade and tell you all what i've been most grateful for this year.
a) my class at school. sure, it's not perfect, there were some major douches in my class this year, but at the same time, i was with my closest friends, and we became much closer than we were last year when i was somewhere else. also, 99% of the class spoke english as their first language. thank goodness. i understood what people were saying.
b) i've finally settled all the questions in my head about who i am, what my values are, what i want to do and that sort of thing. i've identified my identity! it's too much to be put in words, what i've been working on for 14 years. if you hang out with me, you should get the feel of it. (if it helps, the book Bohemian Manifesto: A Field Guide to Living on the Edge has sort of been my bible and it's helped a lot in the identification process.
c) wonderful friends and family, and that includes the doggies.
d) great music. lcd soundsystem, brandon flowers, marina and the diamonds, florence and the machine, one night only, gorillaz, the killers, coldplay, muse, james morrison... oh goodness, if i name everyone (and i'm liable to forget some names), we'll be here till next year. oh wait, that's at midnight. we'll be here till 2012 then.
e) books to read. my dad let me read his copy of The Collected Works of Oscar Wilde and i'm still working my way through it, and then my sister got a whole stack of nancy drew books cheap, and then we each got books to read at christmas, and my mum got a sophie kinsella book i might pick up after i've gone through all the above mentioned titles. and i should really get back to work on the novel(s) i've been writing. they've been sitting unfinished in my abandoned laptop for ages.
f) tea and black coffee. ooh, yum. where would i be without them?
of course, those are only a few of the things i've been utterly grateful for this past year. but i want to usher in the new year (only one more hour!) doing something more interesting than blogging. maybe stealing sips of shandy while giving my full attention to the loud music my dad is blasting. i might even get up and dance around the hall.
so everybody, happy new year! hope 2010 was a great year for you, and hope 2011 is even better!

new loves...

*i claim no credit for these pictures, which i got off google images and deviantart. if one of the pictures in the above compilation is yours, i can credit you for it if you want me to. =)
anyway...
oh, the shame! i can't believe how long it's been since i last blogged. and i'm going to break my silence with a short post telling you about some things i have fallen in love with that you should too.
first of all, the band lcd soundsystem.
i took part in a live webchat ed speleers had the other day, staying up till 3am to do so (what can i say? i love the guy!). AND he recommended we listen to this band called lcd soundsystem. then he played a bit of their song "you wanted a hit". let me tell you, they are awesome. so go listen to them!
second of all, black coffee. with two spoons of sugar.
mmm.
third of all, anything to do with peacock feathers.
we have about four loose peacock feathers we got from temples, and we recently found this shop in subang parade selling the most beautiful earrings and rings and bangles and dresses... very vintage looking and gorgeous, and i got myself a pair of peacock feather earrings from them. planning to go back and get more stuff from them soon!
and finally, crochet.
i don't know why, but one day i was just completely bored out of my wits and i picked up a crochet needle i'd had for a while, but hadn't used for almost a year. and i fell in love with crochet again! now i'm making so many things for people and i'm thoroughly enjoying it. i've made book covers, bags, pouches and more, so i'll recommend my new hobby to you, if you're bored and you feel like getting crafty, get a crochet needle, some wool and learn up on crochet, and then give whatever you make to someone and see their reactions when you tell them you made it yourself. you won't regret it. =)
