today i got the news that i came in second for my school drawing competition. i'm so excited! not quite the champion, but a winner all the same.
next tuesday there will be a public holiday because of independence day. so at 6.30 am we'll be heading off to attend a yoga and meditation thing in this place called jandabaik. i used to go there on holidays with my family and our friends as a little girl. we're having a picnic too! it sounds like it's going to be a great day.
and as for the rest of my life? i drank lots of tea. fussed about with my hair until i perfected the messy bun (expect to see my hair like that a lot now). started reading the faraway tree collection by enid blyton. ate till i could eat no more. watched all three matrix movies back to back -- 6 hours! got on with cleaning my room. found my "prince charming" -- a silly (but rather fitting) nickname for my latest obssession. read blogs. surfed the internet. fell in love with paris and everything to do with the parisian lifestyle. fantasized about meeting ed speleers (i know. i have too much free time). made a deal with my friend that we would travel together someday. and kept on dreaming. because without dreams, where would we be?

travels to faraway lands...

i feel the need to get out of the country for a little holiday. maybe it's because i haven't been abroad in seven years, maybe it's because two of my friends are leaving on holidays (one's off to america, another's going to london). now i'm just itching to jump on a plane and head off to some distant country we only get to see on tv. and with my aunt's 40th just around the corner, we have good reason to! but obviously we can't get anywhere with just wishful thinking.

last night we went to my aunt's house and my dad made more kuey teow. this time it was much better than our last attempt! it doesn't taste amazing or unique, but it's an improvement, and it was delicious anyway. after that some brownies from secret recipe and a fun movie (the hangover) made the night perfect. i managed to get some scrapbooking done too, and it's starting to look really good!

i'll just be going now, since there's school to get ready for and some other things to do online before i get off the computer. but before i go, i just want to make a little request: would you recommend some books and magazines for me? i can't believe how many times i've read everything on my shelf because i don't know what else to buy. for books i'm into fantasy and philosophy and those mystical stories. i also like biographies about interesting artists and creative, free-spirited people (i really enjoyed edie sedgwick's biography). and i'm in love with those magazines that have interesting photography and interviews in them, which is why i'm in love with interview magazine.

and while i'm at it, here's some stuff for you!

- the inheritance cycle by christopher paolini (eragon, eldest, brisingr)
- the sookie stackhouse series by charlaine harris (also known as the southern vampire mysteries series of books, which true blood is based on)
- chocolat by joanne harris
- the witch of portobello by paulo coelho
- the chronicles of narnia by c.s. lewis
- and interview magazine... i'm obssessed with it.

bohemian manifesto

one day while surfing the net i stumbled across this wonderful e-book called Bohemian Manifesto: A Field Guide to Living on the Edge. i'll have to add it to my wishlist! i'd love to own a copy... and the art is gorgeous, i love this kind of simple watercolour stuff, which is part of the reason why i love the mininini site -- she's got those simple watercolour paintings in her comics too.
so hint, hint: i'd like a copy of this book for christmas/my birthday/any occasion you can think of/any random day.
almost by accident i've found myself taking part in a drawing competition. i have to draw tunku abdul rahman in about three days. what have i gotten myself into? oh well.
i've got a gig coming up on saturday! no, i'm not being paid. i'm just performing for some of my parents' close friends, "the book club gang" (i think i mentioned the book club in an earlier post... sundays if i'm not mistaken). so yay! i'm looking forward to that.
oh! and i've taken up scrapbooking. now i have this box lined with magazine cutouts just waiting to be stuck in my new scrapbook. it's sort of a journal too. i might post a page up someday, just maybe.

boho girl

today was a rather okay day. slept late last night and woke up early because my dad insisted we go out for breakfast in the MORNING and not for brunch at 11am or later. so by a little past 9am we were sitting in a little indian restaurant called chola spice eating nasi lemak and drinking iced water (well, that's what i had). then we did a bit of shopping and i'm very happy! i now have a silver nose ring (though it's a round one, not an elongated one), a silver nose stud, workbooks for school (not too excited about that, but there you go), an unlined sketch/project book that i intend to start a scrapbook in, the august issue of seventeen malaysia and -- my favourite -- aviators and white wayfarers! i'm so happy, i now have two items (three if you count the nose ring) off my wishlist and i'm well on my way to expressing my style. my next venture(s): slouchy tops and fedoras, and feathered accessories. hoho! i'll be the female johnny depp. =D

while browsing in the bookstore i came across this great book called the goddess experience by gisele scanlon. in it she lists 1001 micro pleasures, which are the little things in life that we like but don't often stop to appreciate. such as tea. and chocolate. and clothes. i'm going to make a list of my own micro pleasures in my new scrapbook/journal. it sounds like it'll be good fun.

tonight for dinner we had one of our weekend cooking experiments - char kuey teow! well... it didn't turn out very consistent, every plate tasted different, but the imperfection of it all gave it a personal touch. and for dessert there's going to be vanilla ice cream! yum... very unhealthy, yes, but the exercise afterward is a price i gladly pay. doing yoga and dancing to work off delicious food is really quite enjoyable. =D

edie

just a few nights ago i started reading a biography on edie sedgwick my dad let me borrow called "Edie: An American Biography". can i just say, she's so cool. i haven't gotten that far through the book, i haven't even gotten to the part where she meets andy warhol, but it's really interesting so far. i can't wait to read about what happens next. on the side i'm looking up videos of edie and the movie "factory girl" on youtube to find out more about her life. very interesting, very awesome! she's fascinating. (and i love the fact that one of my favourite people, sienna miller, played her in the movie.)

so, it's a friday night and we're not doing much. it's a lazy sort of night, but the weekend sounds promising since we're going to check out cameras at the camera store and possibly buy one. expect some photos taken by yours truly! but for now, i'm content to listen to my favourite songs on my mp3, read edie's biography, sip some coke and plain water and surf the internet. i'm going to read some poetry later on too -- the prophet by kahlil gibran.

i'll stop here since miss sis wants the laptop. ciao!
